Analysis Of Lac Su s Memoir I Love Yous - 1861 Words

When newcomers come to the United States, they are still on a journey of pain and suffering. Even if they can get to the United States they still must go through the trail of owing nothing in a world where everything is against their odds. This is the journey that author Lac Su wrote in his memoir I Love Yous Are For White People which is about when he and his family immigrated to the United States during the aftermath of the Vietnam War and their new life in LA county. His journey is not a unique one as many refugees and immigrants experienced what he and his family experienced in their new lives. In their new lives, many different events occurred that tells the problem all immigrants encounter when adjusting to life in America. An example is the multigenerational Japanese fam ilies living in the United States as growing up the first generation made their entire families and future generations act very Americanized to assimilate into the community. This idea is not forgotten in Su’s memoir when he talks about wearing a suit at Bob Big Boy’s, ‘I don’t want to wear my suit. †¦ We are going to be eating with white people. If you don’t look nice they will look down upon you’ (Su 57). Here Su mentions about how he does not want to wear his suit for something that seemed so trivial while his father insists he does so that they impress the white people that they can act and look like them. It can then be assumed that early on in his childhood, his family wanted to be like the white community so that they could better fit in when living in America. However, this proves to become contradictory later in the memoir when Su tells his father that he loves him. His father’s response, â€Å"Are you trying to imitate those white people by telling me those fucking words?† (Su 150). This proves to become quite a contradictory response to what he previously told his son before of not being looked down by the white people, yet his very actions here is one that is

World War II The Most Deadly Conflict Of All Of The Wars

I have decided to write about World War II, because it was the most deadly Conflict of all of the Wars that we have yet to witness. World War II dated from September 1, 1939 to September 2, 1945. World War II was fought in Europe, the Pacific, Atlantic, South-East Asia, China, Middle East, Mediterranean and Northern Africa. It was a War between the Allied Nations and the Axis Nations. The Allied nations included mostly United States soldiers but also included soldiers from at least twelve different nations. The Main Allied powers were France, Great Britain, the Soviet Union, and the United States. The other Allies of the United Nations were Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, Dominican Republic, Greece, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Poland, Salvador, South Africa, Yugoslavia, Philippines, Mexico, Ethiopia, Iraq, some freed Frenchman, and some freed Danes. The Commanders of the A llied Forces were Joseph Stalin, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, Chiang Kai-shek, and Charles de Gaulle. The Commanders of the Axis Forces were Adolf Hitler, Hirohito, and Benito Mussolini. World War II resulted in the victory of the Allied Forces, and the death of over 60 million. This German born physicist is considered one of the world's greatest thinkers in history. Not only did he shape the way people think of time, space, matter, energy, and gravity but he also was a supporter of Zionism and peaceful living. Einstein was born on March 14, 1879 in Ulm Germany, and spent most of his youth living in Munich, where his family owned a small electric machinery shop. He attended schooling in Munich, which he found unimaginative and dull. In addition to this he taught himself Euclidean geometry at the age of 12. Later his family was forced to move to Milan, Italy where he then decided to withdraw from school at the age of 15. Eventually he realized that he had to finish secondary school, which he took in Arrau, Switzerland. On the other hand he still often skipped class to study physics on his own much like myself. At age 22 he became a Swiss citizen and in 1903 married a women named Mileva Marec, whom which he had two sons with but nonetheless latter divorced as to marry his cousin in 1919. Which is unlike me. On the other hand he did publish five major research papers at the age of 26. The first one getting him his doctorate in 1905. The first paper was on Brownian motion, which is a zigzag motion of microscopic particles in suspension. He suggested that the movement was the result of the random motion of molecules of the suspension medium as they rebound off suspended particles. The second paper laid the base of the photon, or quantum theory of light. It said that light is made off separate packets of energy, titled quanta or photons. The paper remade the theory of light. Also explaining the emissions of electrons from some solid objects when they are struck by light. Televisions are practical applications of Einstein's discoveries. The third paper, which he began as an essay at age 16, contained the "special theory of relativity." He showed that time and motion are relative to the observer, if the speed of light is constant and natural laws are the same everywhere in the universe. The fourth was a mathematical addition to the special theory of relativity. This is where he presents his famous E=mc?, also known as the energy mass equivalence. Compton's Interactive Encyclopedia translates it as "(E) inherent in mass (m) equals the mass multiplied by the velocity of light squared (c?)." His fifth paper was his general theory of relativity. In which he proposed that gravity is not a force, a previously accepted theory but it's a curved field in the space-time continuum created in the presence of mass. In 1921 Einstein won the Nobel Prize for physics for the confirmation of his general theory of relativity although the other papers where still considered controversial. In 1933 he moved to the U.S.A where he became a citizen in 1940. Einstein died in Princeton, NJ, on April 18, 1955. But the knowledge he passed still caries through tomorrow.

Vogue is published in 18 national and one regional edition by Conde Nast Publications. Vogue is most famous as a presenter of images of high fashion and high society. Vogue is giving the millions of women each month of the inspiration and challenge to see things in a different way both for themselves and the world. GQ which is mainly focusing on the mens sector is focusing on fashion, style, and culture for men, through articles on movies, health, food, sports, music, travel and books. In our research the comparison of two fashion magazines, we covered the some characteristics of Consumer Buying Behaviours i.e societal changes overtime, demographics, personality, social group influence and consumer relationship. We also carried out the Primary research in order to attain our research findings. History (Societal Changes) Vogue which is the worlds most influential fashion magazine was founded in the year 1892, by Arthur Baldwin Turnure. After his death the magazine was picked by Conde Nast who changed the magazine from a weekly to a biweekly. Data Analysis The above chart shows that the income of 20% of the Vogue users is less than  £50,000 while 45% of the magazine users fall under the income range of  £100,000 and we found no user of vogue in our sample size whose income level is above  £100,000. In case of GQ users most of the users have the income level around  £100,000 or more. The above graph inferences that mostly womens (around 60 %) goes for Vogue magazines is because of the Fashion Trends, around 40 % prefer style and the rest 10 % purchase it to get latest update about the cosmetics and accessories. This graph inference that mostly mens (around 60 %) goes for GQ magazines is because of the Style, around 40 % prefer Fashion Trends and as this magazine is mostly targeting the male gender of the society, so people do not prefer it for cosmetics. When we asked about the contents of the magazine such as brands, advertisements, articles etc. the majority of respondents replied in favour of it these magazines as shown in the above charts. Intervention Essay -- essays research papers

This intervention has to deal with trying to increase my total weight and number of repetitions for weight lifting. The main problem I have been having, mostly with my bench press, has to do with being stuck at one weight at times and not being able to increase the maximum lift or get any more reps out of the workout. I have tried to "shock my system" by increasing the weights to a weight that I could only do one or two times. I have also tried building up my endurance through using less weight for more reps at times. No matter which I have tried, I always seem to get stuck at one point or another. The reason that I chose this form of intervention was because I have tried to talk to many people about why this occurs, but they all seem to agree that it happens to everyone and there is no way to get around it. If I could find a way to avoid this, it would improve my workout a great deal and I would be able to progress at a quicker rate. Besides with the bench, I will occasionally run into problems with any of the power exercises that I do. The military press, front and back, and 21's cause the most problems next to the bench presses. Since separating both shoulders in a skiing accident, I tend to have pains in my shoulders if I work them too hard. Hopefully, by using imagery and setting some short-term goals I would be able to increase the weight much easier than without. I believe that when I visually see the weights on the bar, intimidation may set in and there may be some doubt. If I am able to switch that to positive thought, it may effect how well I am able to lift the desired weight. Besides these exercises, I also chose to track the progress of my push up counts based on sets of three and two other forms of curls. On the bench that I used, I used a bar for one form of curls and I also used the bench curl attachment. I tracked these two not because I was having trouble, but because I wanted to see if either one made a difference in the type of progress that was being made. Most articles believe that imagery and setting goals have a strong impact on the final results. On the evening of October 7, 1989, Mitchell and a group of young black men attacked and severely beat a lone white boy. The group had just finished watching the film Mississippi Burning, in which a young black boy was, while praying, beaten by a white man. After the film, the group moved outside and Mitchell asked if they felt hyped up to move on some white people. When the white boy approached Mitchell said, You all want to fuck somebody up? There goes a white boy, Go get him. The boy was left unconscious, and remained in a coma for four days. Mitchell was convicted of aggravated battery, which carries a two year maximum sentence. The Wisconsin jury, however, found that because Mitchell selected his victim based on race, the penalty enhancement law allowed Mitchell to be sentenced to up to seven years. The jury sentenced Mitchell to four years, twice the maximum for the crime he committed without the penalty enhancement law. The U.S. Supreme Courts ruling was faulty, and defied a number of precedents. The Wisconsin law is unconstitutional, and is essentially unenforceable. This paper primarily focuses on the constitutional arguments against Chief Justice Rehnquists decision and the statute itself, but will also consider the practical implications of the Wisconsin law, as well as a similar law passed under the new federal crime bill (Cacas, 32). The Wisconsin law and the new federal law are based on a model created by the Anti- Defemation League in response to a rising tide of hate-related violent crimes (Cacas, 33). The Wisconsin Court also rejected the states argument that the statute punishes only the conduct of intentional selection of a victim.
